Valheim Hearth and Home Teaser: The Great Scientific Analysis

Is it a bird? Is it a roof? Is it made of wood?

These are just some of the questions you may be asking yourself after seeing Valheim’s Hearth and Home teaser. It’s just a teaser, of course, so no solid evidence for the contents of Hearth and Home can be found here, but that won’t stop me from overthinking things.

Odin’s Ravens in Hearth and Home?

Option one: this raven is no ordinary raven. It’s one of Odin’s messenger birds, Huginn or Muninn. Do I have evidence, you ask? Absolutely not.

This was the first thing I came up with because of my blindness. Apparently it’s possible to mistake the roof in the picture for an arm and a hand, which is why I thought someone big (and possible divine) was holding up this raven.

Now that I realize there’s absolutely nothing special about this raven as far as we can see, it would be odd to assume that Odin’s somehow involved. It’s still a nice theory, but a silly one.

A new rooftop in Hearth and Home?

The rooftop looks slightly different from the thatch one, as it sticks further to the front and we can’t actually see any thatch. However, it seems possible to recreate a similar roof with the materials currently in the game, as long as you use wood beams.

So, it this teaser showing us old material, or do we get a sneak peak of a new rooftop? As this is the Hearth and Home update after all, getting a new roof is very well possible.

New Hearth and Home Decorations: Wood Raven or Living Raven?

The most likely theory, is that this teaser is showing us a new roof adornment. The shape looks quite similar to the current wood dragon adornment, and the raven looks pretty wooden too. After careful examination of his legs (been staring at them for hours), I came to the conclusion that they do not look like living-bird legs to me. But I could be wrong, of course.

Taming Birds in Hearth and Home

Or, and this would be awesome if it turns out to be correct, will we be able to keep pet birds in Valheim? There are already tamable animals, so taming birds in the Hearth and Home update does not seem too unlikely.

Besides the presence of a raven, however, nothing in this teaser seems to hint at that. The roof adornment option is a lot more likely, but it would definitely be great to have some Valheim bird friends!

What would you like to see in Hearth and Home?

Personally, I would be content with a bunch of new building options. I’ve really taken to the creative side of Valheim lately, and I would love to lavishly decorate my Viking home. Perhaps we can even paint our wooden houses!

As for rebalancing the food system, I would actually welcome the option to starve (yes, really), as it adds to the survival experience in my opinion. I don’t really expect that to happen though, as many players will probably find such an adjustment annoying. Just give me some extra building options and a bird and I won’t complain though!
