Save Your Children: PUBG Outlawed in India

What is the biggest threat to our society these days? -Exactly; gaming teenagers. Luckily, kids in India are now getting arrested for playing the “demon in every household”; Player Unknown’s Battleground.

Last week, up to sixteen people were arrested in one Indian city alone, according to several news reports. Apart from the fact that it is absolutely ridiculous to put people in jail for playing a videogame, the reasons behind these measures are equally unjustified.

PUBG would teach kids a violent attitude, is the official reason for the ban. Let’s keep in mind that scientists have discussed this possibility for many years now, and never found any evidence that videogames lead to an increase in violence. Also, with 100 million players worldwide, we probably would have noticed if PUBG turns people into dangerous murder machines.

Apart from that, the parents of these children seem not at all concerned with their child’s attitude towards violence; what they care about is their grades. We may admit; there is indeed a problem when a person, especially a minor, dedicates 8 hours a day to playing PUBG. And of course, if you put a kid in jail, it will have plenty of time to study (no distractions and such).

However, playing a game is not a crime. Likewise, skipping school to play PUBG is not a criminal offense. Instead of letting a government handle things (as they’ve done a marvellous job so far), why not be a parent and take that phone away? Problem solved.

Let’s hope that there will not be a worldwide witch hunt for PUBG players anytime soon. Although that might be a good opportunity to create a real-life PUBG battlefield, we would never be able to fit all those 100 million players in jail (and certainly not me; as I require a big, luxurious cell and that takes up a lot of space).
